This is how you get started with training

Do you want to start working out or get back into training after a break? Do you lack the right training motivation to get started?

Tips to get started with training

Train together with others

Training together with others makes it easier to get started. It can feel harder to skip training when you have an appointment with a friend or others. It can also be extra motivating and fun when you have someone to train with.

Home training

Training at home offers more flexibility. For some, it can be particularly challenging to get to the gym, and the doorstep can feel far away. For others, it may be uncomfortable to train with many people around. Home training can be a good solution for establishing a training routine that works for you. You don't need a lot of equipment to have a good training session, and you can use your imagination and furniture as aids. There are also some companies or personal trainers who offer online training, either on their website or on YouTube, so you can easily follow the training from your living room.

Learn to love running

Running is one of the best and simplest forms of exercise and a fantastic way to get in shape. If you want to escape the stress of everyday life, listen to music or a podcast, and feel the wind or generally experience nature – then this is a perfect form of exercise. There's also nothing stopping you from combining it with a friend or partner – take a little running date or help each other stay motivated!

Getting started with running is not a complicated task, as the hardest part is actually just starting. It requires minimal equipment; you can start running as soon as you step out the door, and you don't need advanced things like GPS watches, complicated training plans, or a course on how to run.

To elaborate on the latter, there are some things you should have for running. In addition to good shoes and suitable clothing, it is very important to make a plan for yourself and possibly with a running partner. The plan should boost motivation, be encouraging, and prepare you for next time!

To start with, it's fine just to plan how often you want to run, and a 30-minute session is perfect, but feel free to build on how much and how fast over time. Also include variation in the route. If you run in your local area, see if you can go out into the forest or find a trail.

Last but not least, set goals. Motivation can often be closely linked to a specific goal. Keep it simple, but make sure it's realistic, measurable, and time-bound. As mentioned earlier, 30 minutes is a perfect start. Try to set a goal where you continuously aim to run for 30 minutes, and that you should be able to do it within a certain timeframe.

Create a training program

A training program can be a tool that helps you plan your training sessions while logging your performance. This can be both motivating to look back on, but also make training more exciting to carry out. It often feels more secure when you have a plan of what is going to happen, and this function has a training diary. It can be easier to complete the training session if you know what is to happen during training. A lack of planning can lead to a poor session, especially if you haven't trained much before.

Take pictures along the way so you can easily look back on your progress. For many, it can be very motivating to see their own development. The results can be more visible than you think, so it can be motivating to compare the pictures after some time.

Find a personal trainer

For some, it can be easier to get started with training if they have a personal trainer. For many, it can be more of a commitment than training with a friend. A fixed schedule can be crucial and what it takes to actually maintain training. This can be helpful whether you have trouble with motivation or if you are unsure about what exercises to perform to achieve the results you want. A personal trainer can ensure that you get a training program that is tailored to you, and there is less risk of you injuring yourself or overloading. For some, just a few sessions with a personal trainer is enough to get started with training.

Find inspiration on social media

Social media makes it easier for you to find inspiration for different exercises that you can perform both at the gym and during home training. There are many influencers who create good and descriptive sessions and include videos of the exercises. This is a useful tool if you are unsure how an exercise is performed in practice or if you are hesitant to experiment in the gym. This can help you feel more comfortable with the equipment or exercises in the gym.

Ps: Save the videos you want to use so you can easily find them again!
